Starlight Foundation Wii Donation - 01.09.14
GULFPORT, Miss (01/09/14) – Memorial Hospital recently received a Starlight Fun Center mobile entertainment unit containing the latest gaming system that rolls bedside in hospitals to provide distractive entertainment and therapeutic play for pediatric patients. The unit was donated by Starlight’s Global Office.

For children facing surgery, enduring long outpatient treatments or fighting loneliness after hospital visiting hours have ended, Starlight Fun Center units provide a comforting break and important distraction.

Nurses, physicians, Child Life Specialists and parents report back to Starlight that the system greatly improves the experience of hospitalization for their children.

When Hurricane Katrina devastated the gulf coast in 2005, Starlight Children’s Foundation® donated a Starlight® Fun Center ® to Memorial.  “Pediatric patients love the units!  All of the games are built-in, which prevents games from scratching.  There is also a DVD player if the patient wants to watch movies,” said Erin McCaffrey, Pediatrics staff member at Memorial.

Starlight partners with experts, such as Child Life, to improve the life and health of kids and families around the world. Their signature programs bring distractive therapy and play to pediatric patients.
