The Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport has donated toys to the Pediatric Care Unit of Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.

Jamie Traylor, Child Life Specialist, Memorial Pediatrics, will use the toys to occupy the young patients’ time and as a way to relax children following medical treatment.

“Since playing can actually be considered the “job” of children, these toys will be used to help them do their “jobs” while making their hospital stays more pleasurable and enjoyable. This generous donation will encourage children to exercise mastery over the hospital environment as well as provide an outlet for dealing with emotional stress,” explained Traylor.

“Providing resources and support to area children in need is the heart of our mission. We are thrilled to support Memorial Pediatrics and will continue to explore opportunities to do so in the future,” said Leslie Vaughn, President, Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport.

Founded in 1948, the Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport has 53 members and served more than 14,750 children and their families last year with more than 6,000 volunteer hours. For more information about their work, visit their website at www.jagulfport.org.
