GULFPORT, Miss – After more than 35 years of practicing medicine, Dr. Edwin M. Davidson, Medical Oncologist, with Memorial Cancer Center, has retired. Dr. Davidson had been in practice on the Gulf Coast since 1978 at The Medical Oncology Group and as of June 2010, at Memorial Medical Oncology.
Dr. Davidson has always been very passionate about his patients and the quality of care provided to them. In his honor, a donation of $10,000 was made to the “The Dr. Edwin Davidson Oncology Nurse Education Fund” which will help in carrying on his mission of providing the highest quality of care through an Oncology nursing staff that receives the most up to date continuing education. Dr. Davidson strongly believed that all chemo nurses should not only be chemotherapy certified but should also aspire to being Oncology Certified Nurses (OCN). Through this fund, qualified nurses can receive assistance in achieving the OCN designation.
The gift was made from an anonymous donor who appreciated the care Dr. Davidson provided for his life-long friend. It is a wonderful tribute to Dr. Davidson and his service in his private practice as well as to Memorial. The Dr. Edwin Davidson Oncology Nurse Education Fund will be administered by the Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The mission of the Memorial Hospital Foundation is to assist Memorial in “building a healthier community.” In particular, to develop philanthropic support for Memorial Hospital and to generate a high level of community understanding and involvement in Memorial Hospital’s vision, mission, goals and objectives.
Anyone wishing to donate to this fund can do so by contacting Sandra Jordan, Memorial Hospital Foundation Donor Marketing Specialist, 865-3419.
