Memorial Hospital Foundation Receives $1,861.00 From Great Southern Club

GULFPORT, Miss – The Great Southern Club has been an advocate for Memorial since 2011, making donations to the Breast Imaging Special Needs Fund to assist underserved women in our community needing breast imaging diagnostic services.  To date, they have donated $5,503.00 have assisted over fifty (50) women.   On December 5, representatives from Great Southern Club presented Memorial Hospital Foundation with a check for $1,861.00 to be applied to our Breast Imaging Special Needs Fund. Memorial Physician Clinic Managers Donate Toys to Spread Holiday Cheer

GULFPORT, Miss – On Friday, December 20th Memorial Physician Clinic managers donated a box full of toys to Memorial’s Pediatric floor.  Bryant Head, internal medicine physician’s office manager at Memorial stated “I started at Memorial in February of 2002 and I have seen what the Foundation does for the community, family and patients here at Memorial.  The foundation has touched my heart with all that it does.  I saw that you all were doing a toy drive so I made the choice to donate to the cause.”  Each pediatric patient bedside is filled with toys Christmas morning for the child

Run-N-Tri Hosts Annual “Thumbs Up for Bill” 5k Race, Raises $6,010 for “Thumbs Up for Bill” Oncology Fund

GULFPORT, Miss – Run-N-Tri hosted the annual “Thumbs Up for Bill” 5k race on Saturday, November 23 in Gulfport and helped raise $6,010 for the “Thumbs Up for Bill” Oncology Fund at the Memorial Hospital Foundation.  This race, now in its 3rd year, was the most successful to date. BancorpSouth Partners With the Memorial Hospital Foundation In the Fight Against Breast Cancer

Mississippi Paralysis Association Donates to Memorial’s ThinkFirst Program

GULFPORT, Miss – The Mississippi Paralysis Association recently donated $30,400 to the Memorial Hospital Foundation to support its ThinkFirst Program. This program teaches school-aged children the importance of brain and spinal cord injury prevention. Memorial Neurosciences & Rehabilitation, will deliver this program to approximately 6200 school-aged children in 8 schools located in Harrison, and Madison Counties during the 2013-14 school year. NICU receives funding for life-saving equipment

Thanks to a $41,225 grant from the Will Rodgers Institute, the MS Gulf Coast’s only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will receive a new high frequency jet ventilator.  This ventilator will provide life-sustaining support to our NICU babies by providing an alternate mode of ventilation which will decrease lung disease and the amount of time a baby would need to be on oxygen. Hockey Fights Cancer

Mississippi Surge players visited Memorial Hospital to help sell tickets and shirts for the “Hockey Fights Cancer” game.  On March 24, the Mississippi Surge and the Memorial Hospital Foundation hosted the “Hockey Fights Cancer” night.  Proceeds from ticket and tshirt sales benefited the Oncology Fund at Memorial.Many thanks to all of our employees who purchased tickets and shirts and attended the game.

Chili’s Spirit Night

On March 15, the Memorial Hospital Foundation hosted a “spirit night” at Chili’s Restaurant.  Over 60 employees and their friends and family members came out to support the Foundation.  Chili’s graciously offered 15% of sales from anyone who mentioned the Foundation when placing their order and presented the Foundation with a check for over $250.

The Memorial Hospital Foundation has received a $57,000 grant from Pfizer to purchase an Oncology Clincal Pathways software package.  This software program will allow our oncologists to continue to provide the best medical treatments to our oncology patients. Memorial wins 2nd Annual “Silver Cup Challenge”/Foundation receives grant

For the second year in a row, the Memorial team has defeated the Singing River Hospital team in the Breast Cancer Crusader’s “Silver Cup Challenge” tennis tournament.  Members of the Breast Cancer Crusaders presented the Foundation with the Silver Cup Challenge trophy and a check to support the Breast Imaging Fund.  This fund provides financial assistance to women in need of breast diagnostic imaging services such as mammograms, breast ultrasounds and breast MRIs.

More teddy bears from the Mississippi Surge

Players from the Mississippi Surge were at Memorial yesterday delivering teddy bears to pediatric patients throughout the hospital.  The teddy bears were from their recent “Teddy Bear Toss” game in which fans toss teddy bears onto the ice after the first goal is scored.  The bears will be passed out on the pediatric floor, diagnostic imaging and the emergency department to help calm the patients and ease their fears.

Representatives from Residence Inn by Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn and Hancock Bank Wealth Management Group recently held toys drives at their businesses to donate to Memorial’s pediatric unit.  These toys will be distributed on Christmas, birthday’s and other special holidays!
